Vizzutti's writing is more clear than the old text from Arban. I have trouble understanding some of Arban's ideas (written 150 years ago). The notation is better than the old arban book but could be a bit bigger for my old eyes!
My old Arban is about 60 years old and pages are falling out. This new Arban has a ring binder and Allen's comments. Couldn't be better.
VM is wrong (see below) about the older Arban books being worthless. They were valuable years ago and they remain valuable now. This Vizzutti book is really great and deserves at least equal status, if not a notch higher just because it is more up to date. I bought the book and I am very happy I did. I still have my old Arbans (3 of them) and it is interesting to read them all and compare. Bravo Allen Vizzutti for a great edition of an old masterpiece.
Vizzutti is a great player but he's still no Rafael Mendez. The original Arban's was good enough for Mendez and it's good enough for me. How dare someone say the original Arban's is worthless?!? Allen was party to a revision of the Arban's book...congratulations! How about being creative and writing your own book? Talk about cashing-in on another author's work. It's a nice revision. 3 stars.
This book makes all of the old versions of Arban worthless IMHO. I love to hear Vizzutti and I love to read Vizzutti. There are great tips in this book that you will not find in any other edition. It is worth the price.
No question, this is the best arban book for trumpet. It is in a class of its own. If I could have rated it 4 1/2 stars I would have due to the price--it is higher than the older editions. One plus is the Vizzutti solo in the back of the book. Great text and clear printing.
