The first complete editions of the Panofka Vocalises for trumpet, trombone and tuba are here. We also publish the piano accompaniments for these fine studies.

Panofka was a student of the great Bordogni. His music has been widely used by vocalists for more than a century. These songs are generally shorter than the Bordogni compositions. They are very musical and intelligently progressive.

Young students will benefit from this introduction to the singing legato style. The range is not extreme, but both range and key signatures advance progressively throughout the volume.

Advanced and professional-level musicians will find these studies an important addition to their library. By memorizing each etude and performing it with the piano accompaniment, new levels of artistic achievement may be reached.

    Heinrich Panofka, 24 Progressive Vocalises

Posted by George Butler on 9th Jul 2018

Heinrich Panofka (1807-1887) was born in German-speaking Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland), and was a singing teacher in London. These "pre-Bordogni" vocalises are terrific teaching material for younger students, say, a third- or fourth-year player, maybe a high school freshman or sophomore in the U.S., maybe even an eighth grader in Texas. As a low brass teacher, I really appreciate that versions of this are also available for B-flat trumpet (useful for a treble-clef-reading baritone or euphonium student), and written an octave lower for tuba. A separately-published piano accompaniment from Encore that works with all three versions--trombone, trumpet, tuba--is icing on the cake. Thanks, Mr. Jacobs, for making my life easier!

    Great for high schoolers

Posted by Sue Gessford on 12th May 2011

I teach middle school through high school students, and some of them just aren't ready for the demands of Borogni. This book is excellent. The pieces are short and musically satisfying. They are challenging but in good keys for advancing students. I keep coming back for more copies!!!
